Ups and Down in Rural Javanese Industry
The book explores the dynamics of work and life of the small-scale (home-based) garment manufactures, both the garment prodecers (the juragan) and the garment workers (the buruh), in a rural javanese village. The main objectives of this study are three-fold. The first is to understand the dynamics of work of the juragan and the buruh in the small-scale rural garment insudtry, which is operated under the system of so-called infromal arragements. Second is to understand how these dynamics affect the dynamics of the life of the juragan, the buruh and their families. The last is to understand how the socio-economic sondotions (the local setting) where the industry is situated affect the emergence and also the operation of this industry.
